I am a DONA certified Birth Doula. I have attended births in hospitals, free-standing Birth Centers and homes. I worked as a post-partum Doula for Alma Midwifery Birth Center in Portland, OR. I also volunteered as a peer counselor and Administrator for Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon.
I rely on evidence-based practices and information for the way I teach and practice as a Doula. Also, being a DONA certified Birth Doula, I promote natural birthing philosophies and practices. For low-risk women birth is a natural and normal process and the safest way to give birth is naturally, with only medically necessary interventions.
That being said, when a woman is fully informed of her options and the benefits and risks, she will make the choices that are right for her. I believe that every woman has the right to make her own decisions, whether it be a completely natural and intervention-free birth at home, or a fully medicated birth in the hospital. Every woman and her decisions are to be supported and respected.
